Donald Allen Smith

1935 - 2020

Donald A. "Don" Smith, 85, of Findlay, passed away on Saturday, November 7, 2020, at The Heritage, Findlay. He was born on July 21, 1935 in Toledo, Ohio to the late Edson and Mabel (Denhart) Smith. He married Nellie Kneedler on July 20, 1958 and she preceded him in death on February 13, 2019. He is survived by his son: DeWayne A. Smith of Findlay; grandsons: Nicholas A. (Melissa), Jeremy J. and Sean M.; great grandsons: Khail Stokes and Karsen Smith; great granddaughter: Charlotte Smith. He was preceded in death by a son: DeWight Smith and brothers: Jack and Robert Smith. Don served in the Ohio National Guard for many years and was an automotive salesman for 22 years at Harrington Chevrolet Cadillac and then LaRiche Chevrolet Cadillac and then retired from Treadway Chrysler after 10 years of service. Don became a Master Mason on February 7, 1967 being a member of Findlay Lodge #227 F&AM and on April 27, 1968 he became a member of the Scottish Rite. He joined Zenobia Shrine of Toledo in 1968 and was a member of the Findlay Shrine Club, Tiffin Shrine Club, where he had been an ambassador, Tiffin Hornets, Zenobia Shrine Clowns and Zenobia Hillbilly's. He served as president of the Findlay Shrine Club in 2002 and again in 2009 and the secretary from 2003-2008. He was an ambassador to the Tiffin Shrine Club and Ottawa County Shrine Club, parade marshal for Findlay Shrine Circus for six years, a member of Eastern Star #23 OES of Findlay, Elks Lodge #75 of Findlay joining in 1990 and was a co-chairman for the annual car show for seven years. Don's loves were his family, the Shrine and his classic 1970 Chevy taking it to many car shows. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 13, 2020 from 11:00am to 1:00pm at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, 205 West Sandusky Street in Findlay. Funeral services will be held at the conclusion of the visitation at 1:00pm on Friday with Pastor Cathy Davis officiating. Interment will follow at Knollcrest Cemetery, east of Findlay, where full military rites will be conducted by the Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad. Memorials may be given to the Zenobia Shrine, 8048 Broadstone Blvd., Perrysburg, Ohio 43551-4856 in Don's name. Online condolences are welcomed at
