F. Jean Franks

1930 - 2020

F. Jean Franks of Findlay, went to her heavenly home at 7:54am on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at the Sunrise Care Center in Findlay. She was born the youngest daughter of six children on May 23, 1930 in Hanshaw, Kentucky to the late William B. and Ruby Ann (Henry) Vancleave and was raised in Sturgis, Kentucky. She met a soldier stationed at Ft. Breckinridge, KY on a blind date and ended up marrying this soldier, Lyle E. Franks, on November 11, 1951. She traveled to Etajima, Japan in 1952 and they returned to Findlay, Ohio in 1954, where she would live, work, volunteer, and encourage others for the next 56 years. Lyle preceded her in death on January 21, 1977. Jean worked a variety of jobs in her lifetime, many that some would consider menial but, whatever the task, Jean was determined to do everything as though it was for the Lord and His Glory. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Findlay and was a conversation partner with the International Students at the University of Findlay, where she worked. She was recognized recently for having over 2200 hours of volunteering for Bridge Hospice. She continually opened her home and was considered a surrogate mom and grandmom to the students. She was firmly independent and totally dependent on God and His Grace. On her 80th birthday, she said she was surprised that she had lived that long and to say that she longed for her heavenly home was a huge understatement. Survivors include her daughter, Sharon F. (Duane) Burgess of Edmond, Oklahoma; grandchildren: Vicki (Grady) Sweeton, Aleithia (Spencer) Stephens, Christiana Burgess, and Timothy Burgess; great-grandson, Grady Graham Sweeton and numerous aunts and uncles. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, William Franks; grandson, Nathaniel Burgess; sisters: Virginia Vancleave, Dorothy Risk Duffy, and Mary Williams; brothers: William B, and George Vancleave; and numerous aunts and uncles. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 26, 2020 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME in Findlay from 1:00-3:00pm.
