Martha Jean Smith

1964 - 2021

printable version

Early on February 10th Jesus came to walk our little sister, wife and mother, Martha Jean "Martie" Kirchner Smith, 56, home to heaven with him. A sweet little addition to our family was born on September 30, 1964 to parents Richard and Hilda Kirchner, both deceased. Survived by dear devoted husband of 38 years, David Smith and her " little Punkin", daughter Alexis Oriel Smith and her little dog Olive. Also surviving her are brother Richard (Jo) Kirchner and nephew Dustin Kirchner and niece Keri Rene (Carl) Stolz and great nephew Carson and niece Chloe, all of Atlanta Georgia, sister Dianne Kirchner and niece Aubrey Cherrington and great nephews Carter, Oliver and Ace of Canton Georgia, sister Pamela Kirchner of Dallas Georgia, and brother Gary Kirchner of Findlay Ohio. We believe she's reunited with her mother and father and her little dogs Dolly and Merium. Martie had been working for Dollar General, prior to that for the Salvation Army where she had a gift of working with people who needed her help. In her younger days she loved playing her piano, always listening to the latest music on a cassette player in the bathroom. She had a pretty singing voice as well. She had fun painting designs on her pumpkins at Halloween, decorating her home, and always knowing the special things family members desired at Christmas time. She loved her family, friends, her daughter's dumplins, hot soaks in the bath, and her peanut M&M's Martie left us after just a short bout with cancer. She fought it hard, but it became too much and she said she was ready to be with the Lord. Even in her time of tribulation with this horrible disease, her faith in God never wavered. She will be terribly missed by her family, but there is peace in knowing we will all be together again. Arrangements have been entrusted to Coldren-Crates Funeral Home. Online condolences can be shared with the family by visiting coldrencrates.com.

And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying and there shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away. Isn’t it reassuring to us to know that Marty is in Paradise now with our sweet Jesus waiting on us to join her someday. I am deeply saddened that Marty is no longer with us but reassured in knowing we’ll see her again. We can hold on to all the good memories we have, and the pictures that give us a good laugh. I will continue to pray that God will lift you up and comfort you during this difficult time. I love you all.
