printable version

Robert Alan Black, Sr. 75, of Findlay, passed away at 11:50 p.m., Tuesday, December 22, 2020, at the O.S.U. Wexner Medical Center, Columbus. He was born on July 27, 1945, in Toledo to the late Roland L. and Margaret L. (Rominger) Black. He married the love of his life, Shirley Gingrich on October 10, 1964, and she survives. Bob is also survived by his children: Kimberly (David) Hammond, Robert (Rachelle) Black, Jr., Teresa Black, Tanya (Chad) Binau; 10 grandchildren: David Black, Melissa Apple, Chelsee Perza, Jordan Hammond, Heather Black, Amanda Binau, Sarah Black, Samantha Binau, Jessica Hammond and Danyelle Fallin; 12 1/2 great-grandchildren; his brother, Roland L. (Pat) Black, Jr. Bob was a 1963, graduate of DeVilbiss High School, Toledo, OH and the University of Toledo in 1969, with an Associate Degree in Business Technology. Bob worked for Owens Illinois, in Toledo, Ohio eventually as Quality Control Supervisor. He was transferred several times first to Charlotte, NC, Spotswood, NJ, and finally settled in Findlay, Ohio in 1975. Bob has a very strong faith. God has always been his & Shirley’s foundation and strength. Bob was always involved in his church as Elder/Deacon, Benevolent Groups, and especially any area that involved music. When they moved to Panama City Florida in 2013 they immediately joined St. Andrews Baptist Church and picked that area to live because of their love for that church and the wonderful friends they met. When they started going to Florida for the winters, Bob lead the “snowbirds” group at church for several years. Bob & Shirley have always loved singing. They’ve done everything from duets, ensembles, church choirs but the Florida Worship Choir was a trip that changed their life. That choir consisted of 300+ individuals and orchestra. One year they performed in New York at the Brooklyn Tabernacle, Carnegie Hall, Central Park & a Flash Mob in Time Square. That trip was life changing and all done to the glory of God. Bob’s favorite hobbies were fishing, golf, football (Ohio State & Cincinnati Bengals), WWE and especially spending time with family & friends. Bob & Shirley always dreamed of buying a Harley Davidson Motorcycle and Drive across the United States. In the late 90’s they bought their first motorcycle and had trips to Myrtle Beach, Georgia, and even California. They also did a trip to Ground Zero in NY with hundreds of other riders from everywhere to take collected donations to the local fire departments and first responders. A funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, December 27, 2020, at Findlay Evangelical Free Church, where visitation will be held 2 hours (2:00-4:00 p.m.) prior to the service. I'm sorry for your loss. Bob was not only my boss but a friend. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time but due to the Covid pandemic and having had friends and family affected I have made the choice not to attend services. I wish times were different but trust that you will understand.
