Lester Allen Honse
1940 - 2020
October 5, 1940 August 30, 2020 This is the story of Lester Allen Honse, Jr. Lester was an amazing man that was loved, is missed, and will always be cherished. Lester was a loving husband, dad, grandpa, brother, cousin, uncle, friend and animal lover with a heart for giving and a love for Christ. Lester's story began on October 5, 1940, born at home to May (Walker) and Lester Honse Sr in Jenera, Ohio. He spent his childhood surrounded by his six siblings. He was a quiet young man, but a hard worker with a strong drive to succeed. Lester was renowned for his quick wit, contagious smile and strong work ethic. After working all day he came home to complete chores on the farm and repair cars in the barn. He instilled a strong work ethic and integrity in all his children. He had a heart for animals and often brought home abandoned animals to join the family. He never hesitated to help others. Lester met his wife Sally (Schwab) at Kresege's where they worked in high school. They married on September 20, 1959. They spent 61 wonderful years together and were blessed with 5 children, John Lester, Cindy Lee, Mary Elizabeth (Rick) Hilliard, Nancy Kay Dublin, and Andrew Allen (Kelly) Bluffton. Lester loved fishing, watching the Reds and Buckeyes and playing with his seven grandchildren. He enjoyed nature and camping. He never met a dog he didn't like and his two schnauzers brought him endless joy. While raising their children, Lester and his wife spent several years as youth ministry leaders at Mt Cory United Methodist Church. In his later years, he was a member of Jenera United Methodist Church where he served on the board and volunteered many hours maintaining the building and clearing sidewalks. He spoke fondly of friends that became family from both congregations. Lester retired from Ohio Bell where we worked as a splicing technician. He enjoyed the challenge of his work and the continued learning opportunities. He was a proud member of the union and encouraged others to support unions. After retiring from his career, he became a jack of all trades working as a car salesman, maintenance man at Hancock County Courthouse and maintenance at Sam's Club. He discovered the joy of cooking and became a master of preparing breakfast foods, especially blueberry pancakes. A family cookout was not complete without potato salad in his mind, and he enjoyed a healthy sweet tooth. His love for his family was reflected in the time he spent with them and the traditions he shared. Christmas was his favorite holiday. The weekend of Thanksgiving was spent in search of the biggest tree that would fit in the house and also the start of non-stop Christmas music. He decorated the house and yard. He loved poinsettias. Lester left this world in his home surrounded by his family on August 30, 2020. Loved ones that greeted Lester in heaven include his daughter Cindy Honse, his son John Honse and his granddaughter Amelia Honse as well as 5 of his siblings. A celebration of life memorial is scheduled on Sunday, September 13 from 12pm to 4 pm at the Community Building 18800 OH-698 Jenera, Ohio. Please bring memories to share, smiles to give and your favorite dessert recipe or Christmas tradition to inspire others and honor Lester's memory. Donations can be made in Lester's name to the Hancock County Humane Society. Arrangements have been entrusted to COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, FINDLAY. Online condolences are welcomed at www.coldrencrates.com.
