printable version

Eugene Donald "Gene" Elsea, 65, of Findlay passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2020. He was born on November 1, 1954 in Bluffton to the late Don E. and Treva (Luginbill) Elsea. Eugene is survived by his three children: Caleb (Sarah) Elsea of Rawson, Jacob (fiancé Alyssa Clack) Elsea of Findlay, and Hannah (Matthew) Gerbers of Findlay; and grandson, Noah Eugene Gerbers. He is also survived by two sisters: Marcia (Roger) Rigel of Leipsic, and Lois (Ron) Junko of PA; a brother, Floyd (Jean) Elsea of Upper Sandusky; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Elsea was preceded in death by his sister, Doneta (Ed) Arnett. He was a 1973 graduate of Cory Rawson High School. Gene worked for Whirlpool Corporation for 46 years. He was a loving father and brother. He loved being in the country and spending time on the farm. Gene was also an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan and enjoyed Wilson's hamburgers and Dietsch's ice cream. A funeral service will begin at 11:00am on Monday, March 23, 2020 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME where family viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. Pastor Joe Reidling will officiate and burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery. Our dear father and brother deserves a beautiful tribute. However, we appreciate in this unknown time with the COVID-19 pandemic that attending services may not be in your best health interest. Please be with us in prayer, and feel free to leave an online condolence on Eugene's obituary page. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Eugene to the American Cancer Society or Child Evangelism Fellowship of Greater Findlay. Online condolences can be made to the family by visiting

Our prayers and thoughts are with you all. I am so grateful I was able to grow up with Gene in my life and get to know him like I did. He was an amazingly kind, hardworking, selfless man. Gene loved his kids so so much and would even cry everytime he talked about his love for his kids. He was such a dedicated father and there will never be another rare diamond like Gene again.

Dear Elsa family,
We are so sorry for the your loss of Eugene, your father and brother. He certainly loved his children and would love to talk about you all. As a brother you had great childhood memories growing up on the farm. Our sympathies are with you during this difficult time. I am so sorry that his very unexpected death happened at this virus time so we are unable to express our sympathies in person but please know we are sending big hugs to each of you.
In sympathy,
Melissa & George
