Christa Ann Cline

1963 - 2020

printable version

Christa Ann (Holliger) Cline 1963-2020 One of the few advantages of dying from Stage IV Metastatic Pancreatic Cancer, is that you have time to write your own obituary, with the help of my loving husband of course. (The other advantages are no longer bothering with dying my hair and worrying about cholesterol.) I was born in Findlay on June 8, 1963, at Blanchard Valley Hospital with the help of "good ole" Doc Nemsik. I grew up in Bloomdale and Findlay and attended Findlay High School (class of 81 rocks!) and Bowling Green State University. Aside from Bowling Green and trips to several states, I lived 32 years in Findlay and 25 years in rural Bluffton. I was a lifelong Hancock county resident. In my professional life, I was in the food service sector, managing several local restaurants. I worked 12 years for the Cory-Rawson School District and worked in Dietary at the Institute of Orthopeadic Surgery prior to my illness. (I'll miss you ladies) All my thanks to Dr. Danae Hamouda, RNs Sheila and Jan, and the entire staff at the Eleanor Dana Cancer Center, (and God, always) for giving me the chance to fight this cancer, so I could have more time with my family and friends, and to especially be there for my baby girl's wedding. I also want to thank my loving husband for always being there with me through this journey (you were my rock). Thank you to my daughters for your attentiveness, love, support, and medical awareness, which kept me from leaving this earth earlier than I wanted to. Thank you also, along with our friend and neighbor, Delaney, for taking care of me while Frank was at work. Your tedious and loving demeanor will always be cherished. Last but never least, I want to thank the staff at Hancock County Veterans Services Office (where Frank works), the staff at IOS (where I worked), and all of my family and friends who supported me with love, prayers, visits, phone calls, cards, and flowers, because this is what gave me strength to continue the fight. I was preceded in death by my loving parents, Frederick R. Holliger, Jr. and Ann L. Holliger (Burrell), and by all of my grandparents. I am survived by my beloved husband, Nevin F.(Frank) Cline, Jr., and our two adult children: daughter, Nicole R. (Michael) Dailey and our "baby girl" Devin C. (David) Maltsbarger. Also my dear brothers Kevin F. (Holly, and please say a prayer for her as she is battling breast cancer) Holliger and Eric B. (Amy) Holliger. I also leave behind my step-mother Ethel Holliger and step-brothers Ken (Ann) Shelton and Mark Shelton, and many much-loved nieces and nephews, in-laws (especially John F. Cline who always called twice a week to see how I was and to cheer me up with his stories), cousins, and friends. I met Frank (after he drove through the RAX drive through and was checking me out) when he asked me out after mutual friend Mark Brumbaugh suggested we meet. He took me to Pioneer Mill for dinner and when he dropped me off at the house, kissed my cheek and asked if he could call on me again (such a gentleman). My mother, who was peeking through the window, commented that "with that long hair he isn't son-in-law material". We married 2 years later on June 30, 1990. Thank you for all the laughter, love, "adventures", and for standing by me til the end. To my "baby bear" Devin, I love you so much, and I’m so proud of you and the accomplishments you've made in such a short time. I wish you all good things. May you, every day, connect with the brilliancy of your own spirit and may you always remember that obstacles in the path are not obstacles, they ARE the path. Keep striving for your goals and never give up. I will always be with you. To my daughter Nikki, my love for you is as strong as if I birthed you myself. I am so proud of how you've overcome adversity and became a wonderful and loving mother. You are a strong woman so don't let those little things bother you and keep striving to be the best at everything you do. To 'Moe and LoLo', such love, joy and laughter you two have blessed me with. I will always be with you and my future grandbabies, watching over you and wishing you all the best this world has to give. I believe we are, each of us, connected to every person and everything on this Earth, that we are in fact the creation of a Divine Spirit, entrusted to love and take care of each other until the return of his son, Jesus Christ. I was given the gift of life, and now I have to give it back. This is hard, but I was a blessed woman, who led a blessed life, and for this I am truly grateful. I am at peace. I now take my mortal leave of this ever evolving world, the walks around Gem Beach, the Harley rides with the wind in my face, the sunsets from the front porch, the laughter of the grandchildren, the memory of my child’s hand in mine and the feel of her sweet breath on my face as we slept, and the smell of my love's cologne when we embraced. My beloved Frank, Devin, and Nikki, my beloved grandbabies, my beloved friends and family, how precious you all have been to me. Knowing and loving each one of you was the success story of my life. I bid you peace, health, happiness, and above all, love. Until we meet again in "our Father's house" (John 14: 2-3). Memorials can be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network in Christa's name at http://support.pancan.org/goto/christascrusade and online condolences can be shared by visiting coldrencrates.com. A celebration of Christa's life will be held at 3:00pm on Saturday, July 18, 2020 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Dave Carpenter officiating. Visitation will be held from 12:00pm-3:00pm on Saturday at the funeral home. The family asks that only healthy individuals attend the services and all in attendance practice social distancing. p.s. Dear Findlay Courier, please don't mess this up. Thank you XOXO, Christa/Mom/Nana

I remember Christa as a quirky FHS sophomore in band who was funny and full of energy! I loved that she wrote her own obit and I’m not surprised she did such a great job. Her reference to John 14:2-3 is one of my favorite passages. I pray it gives you comfort, along with your memories of her!

Christa was my very first boss when I start working at Rax in 1986 (I was 16). She was a tough cookie but not without so many laughs and great memories. She taught me about work ethic, superior customer service and responsibility. I remember when she met Frank and hearing all of the stories of first dates. We haven't seen each other in years, but your picture looks exactly as I remember you - my beautiful friend. It's no surprise that you left this world telling your story in your way. Prayers and Love for the family.

I met Christa as a classmate after moving to the southend of Findlay in grade school. Her upbeat personality would catch your attention & light up a room wherever you may be. I remember her being the energy you would want to be around and this is depicted in her own obituary writing. My condolences to all & prayers for those connected to such a Beautiful person.....RIP

Our condolences to the family. Most won't realize who this is but Kevin will. We were Ruth and Fred Srs neighbors in rural Bloomdale; right across the road. Saw Christa and Kevin when they visited their grandparents growing up. I'm at a loss for words as I was not expecting to see her picture here. Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers. I know you will miss her greatly. May God grant you His peace and wonderful memories.

I met Christa as a young girl because our parents were friends in Bloomdale. Then they moved to Findlay. It wasn’t until years later that we caught up again at Cory-Rawson and realized we knew each other. Her daughter went to school with my son. I also crossed paths with Kevin years later as his son went to the same babysitter as my boys. I also cherished a necklace their father Fred Holliger made (etched) of a cat face for many years. I remember Christa being spunky way back in the day when we first met. My deepest sympathies to the families of Christa. She will certainly be missed.

Christa's obituary was the best I've ever read. It made me smile, while my eyes brimmed with tears. What a memorable, moving last act! My sincere condolences to all who are mourning Christa. And a special hat tip to Kevin and Eric. I remember you gentlemen fondly. It was fun growing up next door to the Holliger family! So sorry about your sister's passing (as well as your parents'). Peace be with you.

Frank, what a whirlwind this has been for all of you. All of us followed your detailed messages of the valiant battle waged by Christa. The best message of all was the one she (and you) wrote for her obituary. I loved it- - and the best part of all was "don't mess up" to the Courier!! :) :) We will be with you today! I feel like I know Christa from writing back and forth on the pancan Facebook group. We were on a similar timeline and had similar treatment. The last time I heard and saw pictures were from the beautiful party you all had for her. She seemed to love it so much. She had previously sent pictures of the porch re-do...which was beautiful and I hope it gave her happy hours. She was encouraging and got me through a lot of stuff. I am at 21 mos. out and always waiting for the other shoe to drop... I am very sorry for your loss of a great mom and wife. She seemed to love life. May she Rest In Peace.
