Karen E. Miller

1942 - 2020

printable version

On, February 14, 2020, Heaven welcomed Karen Edith Miller, age 77, to her eternal home. She was born on June 8, 1942, in Mt. Blanchard, OH to the late Dale and Ruth (Hickle) Snyder. She married John Miller on June 7, 1964, and he survives. Karen is also survived by her son, Brian (Kim) Miller of Pandora; her daughter, Pamela (Patrick) Plaisted of Redmond, WA; six grandchildren: Clay Miller, Amanda Miller, Jacob Miller, Elizabeth Plaisted, Rachel Plaisted, and Grace Plaisted; and her brother, Jerry (Sandy) Snyder. Karen graduated from Mt. Blanchard High School in 1960, and graduated from Stautzenberger Business College in 1961, with an Associate Degree as an executive secretary. She also had attended the University of Findlay. Karen was employed at Marathon Petroleum Company, retiring after a successful and rewarding twenty-seven years. In her retirement, she worked at Niswander's Jewelers. She really enjoyed being with people and the friends she worked with. She was such a naturally welcoming and warm person, that greeting people as they came into the store was a good fit. Karen was always a hard worker, so volunteering was something she did often. She loved being a Bridge Hospice volunteer where she served as a patient care volunteer for 28 years. She spent many hours with patients so their loved ones could get out and take a little time for themselves. She sat with families and supported them by getting to know them through listening, investing time in them, laughing, and no doubt by shedding tears. She had such an empathy for what all of them were walking through. Many hours were spent keeping vigil with families and sitting with the patients as death approached. Karen wanted to comfort all those in the process and didn't want anyone to be alone. She was also on the Advisory Board for Bridge Home Health and Hospice and spoke passionately about hospice at various meetings and gatherings. Before Bridge Hospice, she spent many hours volunteering for the American Red Cross. Karen was a longtime member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, where she served on various committees and was active in Kathryn Circle, United Methodist Women, Meth-O-Mates Sunday School Class (which was really a forever family rather than a class), visiting those shut-ins who were alone, and helping serve Community Dinners. One of her favorite things to do was serve as a greeter. Karen didn’t just say “good morning” and settle for a handshake. You were getting hugged then questions followed so she could get to know you or find out how you really were doing. Karen was truly a classy lady who gave selflessly of her time and talents. Her family received that same love and care from her. She loved spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren. She might spend that time with John or her kids playing sports (she really loved tennis and was known for her special Indiana style set shot in basketball). Karen also enjoyed time working together trimming bushes, washing windows, or raking leaves. Maybe that time was spent going on a walk. Playing a few rounds of Bananagrams or some cards was also a good possibility. No matter whether it was work or play, laughter was guaranteed to be heard. As a lover of the outdoors and all of God's glorious creation, she shared that with her family and taught them to appreciate it also. Sunsets, beautiful landscapes, the lake, and fall leaves were shared and marveled at. She led with kindness, hugs, and a smile. Others were drawn to her character. She was faithful to both friends and family. There was no better listener. Those who knew or met her were richer for it. Visitation will be held Friday, February 21 from 2:00-4:00pm and 6:00-8:00pm, at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 22 at 10:00am at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Findlay with Pastor Jeff Motter and Pastor Cathy Davis officiating. Burial will be in Hueston Cemetery, Forest, OH. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Findlay and/or Bridge Home Health and Hospice. Online condolences may be expressed at www.coldrencrates.com.

Our deepest sympathy and prayers for you and your family . Your wife will long be remembered not just for her years of service, but also her engaging and warm personality that she gifted to all she met in life.

As a Hospice volunteer she delivered a small gift to my mom one Valentine’s Day- she could bring light into the room with her visits and I know many were blessed by that!

Thinking of you all ❤️
