Merle Wittenmyer, 91, of Findlay, passed away at 1:16pm on Friday, November 29, 2019, at Blanchard Valley Hospital, Findlay. He was born in Findlay on April 10, 1928 to the late William and Marguerite (Falk) Wittenmyer. Merle married Naomi L. Elsea on November 25, 1950 and she preceded him in death on June 27, 2018. He is survived by his five children: Bill (Chris) Wittenmyer of Ft. Wayne, IN, Barb Wittenmyer of Columbus, Gary (Janis) Wittenmyer of Findlay, Anne (Allen) Taylor of Punta Gorda, FL, and Doug (Colleen) Wittenmyer of Maumee. Mr. Wittenmyer is also survived by nine grandchildren: Kristi (Chad) Hoagland, Kelli (Jesse) Wilson, Corinne (Brandon) Haynes, Levi (Tonya) Wittenmyer, Amanda (Charlie) Fleece, Matt (Brittney) Wittenmyer, Jacob Wittenmyer, Dakota Wittenmyer, and Brandon Wittenmyer; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Peg Goodwiller. He was preceded in death by four brothers: William, Wayne, Robert, and Thomas Wittenmyer; and three sisters: Eleanor Laird, Evelyn Kanuck, and Mary Lou Wittenmyer. Merle was a 1946 graduate of Findlay High School. He then joined the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War. Following his discharge from the Army, Merle attended and graduated from Ohio Northern University with a degree in Civil Engineering. He served as the Findlay City Engineer. He was a member of Findlay Shrine Club and Findlay Exchange Club, and was a longtime member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, where he served as a church usher for many years. Merle was a dedicated husband and father, always placing his family first in his life. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 4, 2019 from 2:00-4:00pm & 6:00-8:00pm at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME. A Funeral Service will begin at 1:00pm on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, with Pastor Jeff Motter officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted by the Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Merle to the Shriner's Hospital, St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, or Flag City Honor Flight.
