Leora Jean VanWormer, 89, of Findlay passed away peacefully at 1:30pm on Saturday, September 7, 2019 surrounded by her family. She was born on August 21, 1930 in Holland, Michigan, the daughter of the late Fred W. and Iscah Mae (Fairbanks) Nivison. Her grandparents were Ernest and Cora Fairbanks. Leora was also a cousin to the late famous Ancestry TV icon movie star Douglas Fairbanks. On May 20, 1950 she married Clyde VanWormer, Jr. at Howard United Methodist Church by the Rev. Raymond Beals. She was preceded in death on March 13, 2008 by her beloved husband, Clyde VanWormer Jr. He was the love of her life for 58 years. Leora Jean graduated from Findlay High School in 1950. She was employed at the Blanchard Valley Hospital, retiring in 1989 from the Dietary Department, after 20 years of service. Leora Jean enjoyed family get-togethers, traveling, playing cards, Bingo, crosswords, and Sudoku puzzles from the newspaper. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, watching them grow. Clyde and Leora Jean raised six children together and are survived by three daughters: Linda (Roger) Pool, Vickie (Rick) Bowling, and Allie Mae Vandyke, all of Findlay; and three sons: Danny (Sandy) VanWormer, Randy (Nancy) VanWormer of Alvada, Ohio, and David Clyde VanWormer. She is also survived by her brother, Milo Nivison; sister, Martha Shroyer of Findlay; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-granddaughters; and numerous nieces and nephews. Leora Jean was preceded in death by five brothers: Merle, Fred, Ernest, Dale and Clyde Nivison of San Diego, California; and three sisters: Wanda Hile, Cleo Wiler, and Faye Bedord of New Bern, North Carolina. She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Nicholas Claude VanDyke of Lake Village, Arkansas. Leora Jean was a kind, caring, and compassionate person to all who knew and loved her. She will be missed, especially by her family and friends. She will be forever loved and dearly missed by all. A funeral service will begin at 1:00pm on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, where the family will receive friends from 11:00am until the time of service. Burial will follow in Knollcrest Gardens, east of Findlay. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Leora Jean to a charity of the donor's choice.
