Gene Burt Madsen, 91, of Findlay passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2019 at 7:00pm at Brookdale of Findlay. He was born in Freeport, IL on August 5, 1927 to the late John and Florence (Alvord) Madsen. He was married to Neva J. Ammons for 64 years and she preceded him in death on August 28, 2017. He is survived by his five children: Cindy (John) Edelbrock of Morrow, OH, Lou Ann (David Poole) Madsen of Columbus, OH, Brad (Alicia) Madsen of Gales Ferry, CT, Judi (David Kelley) Madsen of Mt. Holly NC, and Darin (Sandra) Madsen of Findlay; nine grandchildren: Lauren James, Matt Edelbrock, Jaimie Robinson, Brian Edelbrock, Mackenzie, Evan, and Lily Bensko, and Samantha and Justin Madsen; and six great-grandchildren: Hazel, Isaac, Eva, Phoenix, Thomas, and Willow. He was preceded in death by his sister Annette (Madsen) Brown. Gene served two years in the U.S. Army with the 40th Division during the Korean conflict. He received his high school education at St. John's Military Academy, Delafield, WI. He received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Bowling Green State University in 1949. He worked at Marathon Oil Company, retiring after 34 years. After retirement, he enjoyed working at the Findlay Country Club for 11 years. He was a member of Free & Accepted Masons Lodge #227, Findlay, serving the masonry for 70 years; Findlay Clowns and Shrine Club; and the Zenobia Temple. He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Findlay. He worked with the Coast Guard Auxiliary and was an avid golfer and loved sailing. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 31, 2019 from 2:00-4:00pm and 6:00-8:00pm at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay where a Masonic Service will be held at 7:00pm. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at 11:00am, with Rev. William Stenke officiating, and military honors conducted by the Hancock County Veterans Military Squad. Memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice in Gene's memory.
