Jane Ellen MacDonald

1959 - 2019

printable version

Jane Ellen MacDonald, Beloved Wife, Mother, Sister, Aunt, passed peacefully on February 28, 2019 at Bridge Hospice, surrounded by her loving clan. A brief but brave struggle with cancer claimed her life. She was 59. She is survived by her husband, Richard B. Wittenmyer; her son, James B. Wittenmyer; siblings: Chris MacDonald and Angela (Guido) Andreshak, both of Bowling Green, OH, David MacDonald of Los Lunas, NM, and Kevin (Libby) MacDonald of Findlay; 9 nieces and nephews; and 9 great-nieces and nephews. Jane was born in Marion, OH on November 10, 1959, the fourth child of James K. and Virginia A. MacDonald. Her family moved to Findlay when she was two. Her parents had purchased the Findlay Pipe and Supply and the whole family went to work to build the business into what is now MacDonald Supply. Born of an entrepreneurial spirit, Jane and three of her siblings formed Mac Maids in 1984 and built a large residential and commercial cleaning business, serving Toledo and Findlay, Ohio. When Jane married Richard in 1991, they were both ready for something completely different. They studied massage therapy in Columbus, OH. They were certified by the State Medical Board in 1993 and opened Findlay Massotherapy Clinic on East Lincoln Street. She found her true calling. For twenty-five years, Jane’s quiet compassion and gentle touch endeared her to her loyal clientele who grieve her sudden departure. Jane’s proudest achievement was the birth of their son, James Burton, in 1998. Jane embraced motherhood with the same passion she had for any role she took on. An inspired cook (her hobby and true passion), James gave her an excuse to roll out daily culinary delights, imbuing her son with a broad palate and love of fine cuisine (Her son never ate a school lunch). As college age approached, she taught him how to cook all his favorite meals. There was not a person nor possession she loved more than her son. Richard knew he would play second fiddle from the moment Jane realized she was pregnant. And he was okay with that. Gone too soon, Jane cherished every moment, memories shared, and love expressed during the steady flow of visitors who came to say goodbye. She was surprised and thrilled by a private concert by her son’s band, Null Set, all of whom are like sons to her. She will always be missed and never forgotten. Carpe Diem. The family would like to thank the fine folks at Blanchard Valley Hospital and Bridge Hospice, whose diligent care in Jane’s final days made us feel like family. We don’t know how you do it. Visitation will be held at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME on Sunday, March 10 from 12:00-4:00pm. A private friends and family celebration will be held at a later date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Jane’s honor may be made to the James B. Wittenmyer College Fund at any Huntington Bank (as of March 11, 2019), Bridge Home Health & Hospice, or to a charity of the Donor’s choice. Online condolences may be made at www.coldrencrates.com.
