Robert L. (Bobby) Stimmel passed away at the age of 72 at the Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay at 3:38am on Wednesday, January 23, 2019. He was born on October 27, 1946 to Robert and Helen (Gonyer) Stimmel. He attended Findlay High School, proudly boasting about being the first graduating class at the new high school in 1964. After high school, he served in the Army from 1965-1968 stationed in Killeen, Texas. While there, on a chance stop at a Car Hop Diner he met the love of his life, a feisty red headed waitress named Betty. He continued harassing her until she finally gave in and the two were married on August 27, 1968. They were blessed with 4 daughters to help fill their house and finally a male puppy to help even out the score a little. They were lucky to share 51 years as Mr. and Mrs. His passion for big toys landed him a job with Glen Stahl Excavating working on the crew and running the loaders. He then took a job with the City of Findlay Water Department and later transferred to the Engineering Department, where he retired in 2011 after 31 years. His hobbies included coffee with the guys, BBQs with friends, NASCAR races on TV and classic cars, whether they ran or were hauled in on a trailer to be put together. However, anyone that knew him, knew that wherever he was, Betty and the girls weren't too far away because he was definitely a man who loved his family more than anything. Bobby never knew a stranger. He had a heart of gold and would drop anything he was doing to help someone who needed it. His kindness left an imprint on anyone that knew him. Eight years ago he was diagnosed with Alzheimers/Dementia. For those years we battled alongside him with the ups and downs of this awful disease. Up until about 6 months ago, things stayed pretty steady, but he was rapidly declining. We were in the last stages of his suffering. We cherished every last minute we had with him. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert; mother, Helen; brother, William; brother-in-law, David; and nephews: William and Rusty. He is survived by his wife, Betty; daughters: Kim (Ryan) Crow, Tonya (Chad) Caton, Wendi (Zac) Baker, and Sara (Trevor) Tennant; sister, Jane; grandchildren: Kenzie, Emily, Erin, Jaxson, Maddie, Wyatt, Ashley, Katelyn, and Elizabeth; great-grandchildren: Kaiden, Spencer, and Kallie; and his nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 28, 2019, at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay, with Pastor Jim Klausing officiating. Burial will be in Knollcrest Gardens, east of Findlay, where full military rites will be conducted by the Hancock County Veteran's Memorial Squad. Visitation will be held from 12:00-4:00 p.m., Sunday, at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Online condolences may be expressed at

Our deepest sympathy in the passing of a man our family became very attached to. Our son, John, worked with Bobby in the Engineering Department, and Bobby became a part of our family. John learned so much from Bobby ... even got himself a pair of measuring tape suspenders so he could look like his buddy. Leukemia took John 14 years ago, and we are certain John is happy to have his special inspector at his side. Bobby was very special and we will always remember his friendship. God bless you all. Sincerely, Dave, Beth, Steve and family, Dan and family.

Betty & girls,
So sorry for your loss. I'll never forget being a kid and having such fun with Bobby & my Dad. I'm not sure who were the bigger kids, us girls or our Dads. His laugh & smile made him unforgettable. I can just imagine what those two are up to now.
