Mary Stimmel Blide, 82, passed away on January 6, 2019 at Birchaven Village. Mary was born in Findlay to the late Vern and Ruth (Stall) Stimmel. She married John R. Blide in 1954 and he preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Kathy (Terrence) Hemmer. Surviving are a son, John V. (Bernadine) Blide of Findlay; two daughters: Liz Wickard of Aurora, Colorado and Emily (Robert) Moore of Victoria, Texas; nine grandchildren: Carrie (Jason) Plesec, Megan Hemmer, Bryan (Elizabeth) Blide, Christine (Evan) Brim of Findlay, Jennifer (Brent) Kieffer of Whitehouse, Ohio, Joshua (Alex) Wickard of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Ian, Andrew, and Xavier Moore of Victoria, Texas; and thirteen great-grandchildren. Surviving siblings include: Kathleen Phillips of Findlay, Naomi Campbell of Aurora, Ohio, and Evalyn (Glenn) Saylor of Seven Hills, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Shelley, and her brothers: Ronald Stimmel and Dr. Joseph Stimmel. Mary was a 1954 graduate of Findlay High School and a 61-year member of the First Presbyterian Church. Mary enjoyed golf, playing cards, gardening, and sewing. Mary and John loved traveling and visited nearly every state. Mary especially loved the beaches in Florida, as well as North Carolina's Outer Banks. Mary loved her family, especially doting on and holding her baby grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mary worked for Theatrical Accessories Inc. of Findlay until its closing and then was a partner in SNAPS Inc. of Mount Cory, Ohio. She enjoyed being a partner and attending the annual Halloween show in Chicago. In her thirty years of being in the costume business, her highlights included collaborating on a jeweled white jumpsuit for Elvis and a Halloween costume for Ted Kennedy. Mary had four business related television appearances, including the TODAY Show. Mary loved to celebrate. She was a fabulous hostess for holiday gatherings, birthdays, and picnics for her large family. Mary and John hosted legendary Christmas parties for their friends for thirty years. All of these special events will be remembered fondly. Mary will truly be missed by many, and our world is a much sadder place without her. Visitation will be held from 3-7pm on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME in Findlay. The funeral service will be at 1:30pm on Friday, January 11, 2019, at First Presbyterian Church in Findlay, with Pastor Jessica Myers officiating. A Celebration of Life will take place following the funeral service at the Crates Life Appreciation Center, 219 West Sandusky Street, Findlay. Memorial contributions may be made to The John and Mary Blide Memorial Golf Scholarship through the Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation, to First Presbyterian Church, 2330 South Main Street, Findlay, Ohio, or to Bridge Home Health and Hospice, 15100 Birchaven Lane, Findlay, Ohio 45840.
