Gene A. Thrush, 85, of Arcadia passed away on Tuesday, January 1, 2019, at his residence, surrounded by his family. He was born on August 19, 1933, in St. Johns, OH to the late Chester and Everet (Clark) Thrush. He married Alice G. Fox on January 22, 1955, and she survives. Gene is also survived by his son, Rodney (Diana) Thrush of Arcadia; his grandchildren: Joseph (Monica) Thrush and Katie Thrush; and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Michelle Thrush; brothers: Glen and Perry Thrush; and his sister, Mable Naurice. Gene retired from Teledyne in Toledo, where he was a Quality Engineer. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, having served our country in the Korean War. He was a member of the Arcadia United Methodist Church. He had been active in the Arcadia community, where he served on village council, the school board, and coached midget football. Gene was a member of the Findlay Masonic Lodge #227 and the Findlay Shrine Club. He was also a member of the Buckeye Western Horse Association, and Auxiliary Ohio State Highway Patrol. Gene enjoyed reading western books, horse shows (where he was known as "Papa Gene"), golfing, playing Santa, the Hancock County Fair, and attending Sprint Car races. His greatest love was his family and friends. Gene never knew a stranger. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at the Arcadia United Methodist Church, with Pastor Erma Metzger officiating. Burial will be in Arcadia Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted by the Hancock County Veteran's Squad. Visitation will be held from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m., Monday at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay, where a Masonic service will be held at 7:30 p.m., and 1 hour (10-11 a.m.) prior to the service at the church.
