Roy Lee Meyer, 79, died June 27, 2020 at Bridge Hospice Care Center in Blanchard Valley Hospital as a result of Alzheimer's disease and vascular dementia. A native of Findlay, Roy was born May 26, 1941, to Elmer and Nina (Hennings) Meyer, who preceded him in death. A life-long farmer, he was a graduate of The Ohio State University, where he majored in agricultural engineering, with graduate studies in agricultural economics. He also taught physics and chemistry Elwood High School during the late 1960's. Roy lived most of his life on the family farm near Rawson, moving closer to Findlay after his marriage to Barbara Engelhart in 1985. He spent the last year of his life at The Heritage. After he became a Christian in his early 40s, Roy became an avid student of the Bible and took particular interest in the Jewish roots of Christianity. Roy also did his best to live his faith. When he was in his 60s, an encounter with a homeless former convict resulted in his helping several men and women struggling with addiction. Not everyone he attempted to help overcome succeeded, but many did, in the process leaving behind their lives of crime and/or prostitution. Roy was a member of New Life Assembly of God, had served as a board member of the former Mutual Fire Insurance Company of Eagle Township, and was a member of the American Society of Agricultural Engineers for more than 50 years. He is survived by wife, Barbara, as well as their children of the heart, Matt and Anita Martens, Columbus, and their daughters, Abby and Becca, granddaughters of the heart, whom he adored. He is also survived by four siblings: Mrs. Joyce (Larry) Elsea, San Diego, CA; John (LeeAnn) Meyer, Findlay; Mark (Therese) Meyer, Perrysburg; Louise Shultz, Findlay; and several nieces and nephews. Due to COVID-19, the celebration of Roy's life will be virtual only, live streamed online at discovernewlife.com/live-stream at 12:00pm (EST) Saturday, July 11, with Pastor Dutch VanderVlucht officiating. There will be no visitation, and interment will be private. All arrangements have been entrusted to COLDREN CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay, OH. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those wishing to honor Roy perform an act of kindness in his memory. The family also wishes to thank the staff of Legacy Lane at The Heritage for the exceptional care -and caring- they provided Roy over the past 14 months.
