Roger L. Siferd

1948 - 2020

printable version

Roger Siferd joined his wife Judith Ann at 4 o'clock pm on November 20, 2020 due to complications of Covid 19. He married Judith A. Peterson on May 23, 1970. Roger attended Findlay High School. Surviving are son Jonathon W. Siferd (Jen) of Findlay, daughter Amy Siferd-Haynes (Dan) of Findlay son Michael S.L. Siferd also of Findlay. Roger was one of five children; brother Steven Siferd (Sally), sister Barbara Elsea, brother Dennis Siferd (Ginny), brother-in-law Mike Honse and sister Jane Honse who preceeded him in death on June 7th, 2015. Roger has 5 grandchildren, Shaylee (Ethan) Dearsman, Emily Siferd, Dylan (Becca) Haynes, Gracia Haynes, Anthony Iriti III and 2 great grandchildren Vayda and Beckett Dearsman. His beloved dog and faithful companion, Casey, also survives. Roger was born on July 5, 1948 to Mary Jane Snyder who proceeded him in death November 22, 2006 and Wayne Snyder who also proceeded him in death May 14, 2008. Roger enlisted in US Navy at 17 years old and served his country proudly from February 8, 1967 - November 2, 1970. If you knew Roger you called him a friend. Always a smile and an encouraging word and he would do anything for you if he called you a friend. His door was always opened to family, friends, coworkers and people whom he never met. His home was full of love and laughter; campfires, fireworks, grilling, marshmallow darts, cutting wood (esp his feathers), making projects, shooting guns and going fishing. When his kids were younger it was not uncommon for him to load them in “Big Red” and take them for a night swim at Hancor Lake. He was the encourager for many with giving words of wisdom regarding, honor, respect, love, friendship and life. One of his favorite questions to ask was, "Have I told you I loved you today?" Roger will always be remembered as a man of honor, integrity and a man of his word. Roger retired from Hancor/ADS after 40 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion Post 3, V.F.W. #5645, D.A.V. #43, Amvets Post 21 and Moose Lodge #698. He also holds 8 federal patents. A funeral service will begin at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 28, 2020 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME where the family will receive friends from 11:00am until the time of service. Pastor Herb Koonce officiating and burial will follow in Trinity Baptist Cemetery. His family would like to thank Dr. Mark Fox for his years of care and friendship to Roger. They would also like to thank the doctors, staff, and especially nurses at BVH for their tireless hours and love they provided to Roger. They showed him dignity and respect to the very end. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Roger to the Hancock County Veterans Service Office or the Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad. Pawsible Angels is honored to have been in Roger and Casey's life. Roger was a very dear friend, and there were times we have each other strength and hope. Roger was the best storyteller, sometimes wise old man, and a blessing in our lives. He was truly an earth angel, and now he has his wings. We know he and Judy are together in Heaven again and will always be with us in our hearts.

Like many of Mike's friends I spent a lot of time hanging out with Roger as a teenager. He was the rare parent who was not only comfortable being around his kids' friends but took interest in them and treated them with respect. I didn't realize it at the time but what was special about Rog wasn't all the stories he told, but that he truly listened to us. Thank you for raising one of the best human beings I have ever known, my friend and brother Mike. I am so sorry for your loss.

Our sincere sympathy, Jon, Amy, & Michael. Roger had an impact on so many lives. I know you have many memories that will bring smiles to your faces. Praying God will give you the comfort and grace you need to go through this time. I specifically remember a verse from the Bible that he pointed out to me many years ago....For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. II Timothy 1:7.
