LaDonna Jean Flickinger

1924 - 2019

printable version

LaDonna Jean Flickinger, known to most as “Donnie”, died peacefully in her sleep at Fox Run Manor on March 24th after a 4-month period of declining health. She was born October 4, 1924 in Hancock County to Lora (Spradlin) Hamby and Louis Elvis Hamby. They preceded her in death, as did her brother, Ivan Hamby; and sisters: Murl Rader and Mildred Doyle-Van Sickle-King. She married Robert Franklin Miller in 1943, and they had three children: Sharon (Joe) Sneed, Denny (Pam) Miller, and Ricky (Linda) Miller. Robert preceded her in death in Missouri in April 1955 after 12 years of marriage, and she returned to McComb with their three small children. In March of 1959 she married Paul Max Flickinger. They had one son, Paul Mark, who died in 2011. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in March of 2009 shortly before his death on April 2nd. LaDonna had six grandchildren: Sherry Bowersox, Amanda Flickinger, Ryan (Jordan) Miller, Adam Miller, David Felgar, and Sarah (Marshall) Simmons. She has 11 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. LaDonna was a member of the United Methodist Church in McComb, Ohio. She held several jobs during those years between her marriages, and later in life, was employed as a librarian at the McComb Public Library. She was a prolific reader and enjoyed her work and her friends during those library years. They wintered in Zephyrhills, Florida for 23 years and made a legion of friends there. She was a leader of “Fun Gang” activities in their Florida community and stayed in touch with her many Florida friends long after the winter trips ended. Per her wishes, her immediate family will gather at the gravesite to privately celebrate her life at a later date. She has been cremated, and her ashes will be buried at McComb Union Cemetery beside the gravesites of Robert Franklin Miller, Paul Max Flickinger, and Paul Mark Flickinger. Those wishing to do so can contact the family and receive a digital memorial. The family asks that anyone wishing to remember her in a more traditional way make a memorial gift to their own favorite charity (Donnie’s favorites were the McComb Public Library, and Hospice). Arrangements have been entrusted to COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME in Findlay.
