Leah Buchanan died at Primrose Retirement Community on Tuesday April 9, 2019. She was 99. Born Leah Huffman on January 4, 1920 in Allen Township, OH, to LeRoy and Edna Huffman, she grew up on a farm outside Findlay and graduated from Van Buren High School in 1937. She worked for several years as a dental assistant before marrying Thomas C. Buchanan (also from Findlay) in Houston, Texas, in 1943, where he was stationed as an aviation cadet at Ellington Field. After the Army, Tom’s career at Marathon Oil Company finally landed them back in Findlay in 1966. Leah became a full-time mother and homemaker. Leah is survived by her only child, Karen Wachs, and Karen’s partner, Joe Farrell (Ryland Heights, KY); as well as two siblings: Ann (Harry) Dangler, and Dallas (Doris) Huffman; a sister-in-law, Carol (Robert) Huffman; and numerous nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren, and step-great-grandchildren. Leah was preceded in death by her husband, Tom, who died in 1983; her son-in-law, Jim Wachs; and her remaining four siblings: Evelyn (Raymond) Insley, Maxine (Oscar) Musgrave, Jack (Esther) Huffman, and Robert (Carol) Huffman. Leah’s favorite hobbies were golf (until age 90!), bridge, and mahjong. She was a long-time member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church. Her other affiliations include Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation, Mazza Museum at University of Findlay, BVH Twig #15, Sycamore Springs Golf Club, Findlay Ladies Elks Bridge Club, and Handbags That Help. Arrangements are being handled by COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay. A memorial service will be held at St. Andrews United Methodist Church on Wednesday, April 17 at 1:30pm, followed by an informal reception also at the Church. Pastor Jeff Motter will officiate. Burial at Maple Grove Cemetery will be at the convenience of the family. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice or to Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation, 101 W.
