printable version

Jerold W. "Jerry" Higley peacefully passed from life through death to eternal life on January 8, 2021, at Blanchard Valley Hospital. Jerry was born July 19, 1936, in Townwood Ohio to Wiley and Erma (Winstead) Higley. Surviving is his wife, Marianne, whom he married at Howard United Methodist Church January 10, 1969, and they were married almost 52 years. Surviving also are his sister, Nancy J. Vandenburg, Miamisburg, Ohio and Lionel K. Higley, Findlay and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant twin brother, Gerald, infant sister, Patricia and sister, Sandy Cole. Jerry graduated in 1954, from Findlay High School. His employment at RCA was interrupted by serving in the Army from 1959-1962, a majority of which was served in Germany and at Fort Polk, Louisiana, in 1968, he became employed at Fostoria Industries where he retired after 31 years of service 1999. Jerry liked to putter in the garage and come up with his so called "engineering marvels." He also liked to work with wood. After retirement, he became interested in the bible which he read from cover to cover many times. He served in various voluntary positions at Howard United Methodist Church where he attended from 1947 to the present time. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, traveling and feeding the birds and the ducks. He was an Ohio State, Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians fan so he knew all about perseverance. Per his wishes and also with Covid-19 in mind, there will be no visitation or services. There will be a private family graveside service at Knollcrest Cemetery with full military rites conducted by the Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad. Arrangements are being handled by COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay. Memorials may be made to Howard United Methodist Church. Jerry's favorite saying to others was "Peace Be With You." "Peace Be With You" also, Jerry. Online condolences may be expressed at www.coldrencrates.com.

I am very sorry for your loss. I don’t know if you knew this, but his room at Fox Run Rehab was across the hall from my mother Sally (she’s in with a broken hip). She told us there was a man from Howard Church across the hall. Another day she said it was someone that looked like Wiley Higley. We finally landed on that it must have been Jerry.

Mary Ann we saddened to learn of Jerry's passing. I know that you have a strong faith and know that Jerry and you will be reunited in heaven which I am sure gives you comfort. Many years ago Jerry and I worked together at RCA. He was a wonderful person to work with as he was fun and would give me advice about some of those truckers! I was young and very naive. We pray that you will find peace knowing that you will be togerher again in heaven.

Marianne, was saddened to hear of Jerry's passing but know he is still smiling in heaven. I work in the deli at Brinkmans and you two were our "favorite customers". Remembering him always saying "everyone loves the deli girls", and I remember him putting a produce plastic bag on his head one day. He always made us laugh. Will miss him. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Brenda4jcd

Marianne, please accept my heartfelt sympathies. I so enjoyed working with Jerry at Fostoria Industries. I believe the last time I saw Jerry was at Birchaven when I had hip replacement. He was driving around on a golf cart and would stop and chat a few minutes. He was a great friend.

Oh Marianne, so sad to hear of Jerry passing. I so enjoyed working with him at Fostoria Industries. One of our sayings to each other was "Hear Duck". Does he still have that duck he got many years ago, he spoke of it many times. What a man to work with, learned a lot from him. He will be sooooooooooo missed. Norb
