printable version

Mildred Maurine (Hall) Powell, 100, entered heaven to join her Savior and her beloved husband “Buzz” at 4:00 a.m. on Sunday, February 3, 2019, surrounded by her loved ones. Mildred was born to the late Ralph Underwood and Ada Pauline (Edmister) Hall on August 8, 1918, in a farmhouse near Gilboa, Ohio. She attended Mt. Cory School until 1934 and graduated from Liberty High School in 1936. She married her childhood sweetheart and first love, Leo Burnette Powell, on August 24, 1940, in the Gilboa Methodist Episcopal Church. Mildred and 'Buzz' lived on a farm west of Benton Ridge on State Route 12 for 71 years. 'Buzz' went to be with his heavenly father on August 6, 2011. She was preceded in death by her parents and her two brothers and their wives: Ralph Allen (Virginia) Hall and Sheldon Otho (Barbara) Hall; and her in-laws: Norwood (Dorothy) Powell, Robert (Betty) Powell, and Nora (Jack) Vint. Together they had 2 daughters: Ann (Gary) Stewart, and Judy (Mark) Shick, both of rural Rawson. They also had five grandchildren: Amy (Kirk) Baker of Chicago, Stephanie (Brent) Price of rural Rawson, Greg (Holly) Stewart of Westerville, Robyn (Brian) Wilson of Upper Arlington, and Elizabeth (Travis) Sands of Lebanon, Ohio. Mildred is survived by 16 great grandchildren: Cameron and Zachary Baker; Aubrey, Marah, and Ava Price; Caleb, Clara, Carson, and Caroline Stewart; Aden and Henry Wilson; Colton, William, Robert, Kayte, and Saryn Sands; and many nieces and nephews. Mildred was a homemaker and retired teacher, having taught K-8 at Cloverdale, Gilboa, and Cory-Rawson schools for 24 years. She was a lifetime member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, Benton Ridge, where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. She played piano and organ for church services. She was very active in her church's youth and women's society organizations, serving the Findlay and Toledo districts, as well as Lakeside Institute and School of Missions. She was Dean of Girls at Lakeside Institute from 1958-1962. She was president and active in Church Women United and was active in Bible Study Fellowship for 23 years. She was a volunteer teacher at the Hancock Historical Museum, Findlay, Ohio, for 13 years. Mildred was a 4-H advisor for ten years and she and her husband, 'Buzz' operated a dairy and grain farm. Mildred loved her family! She prayed for them by name and encouraged her family to serve the Lord. She loved the Lord with all of her heart and was a dedicated Bible student. At 100 years old, she continued to offer beautiful prayers and still sat down at the piano to play. A Funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Monday, February 11, 2019 at Good Shepherd UMC, Benton Ridge. Pastor Richard Hiltibran will officiate and burial will follow in the Benton Ridge Cemetary, Benton Ridge, Ohio. Mildred was such a strong influence for the Lord and left feelings of love and care wherever she ministered. I enjoyed being with her in BSF. She had so much to share with our group. She will be missed greatly but with the hope of Heaven in our hearts, I'm confident that we will see her again one day. May God comfort you during the days ahead.

We pray the Lord will wrap His loving arms of peace and comfort around you during this time over the loss of your mom. I have many precious memories of your mom and looked forward every Christmas in getting her Christmas Letter which was full of words of love for the two of you and her grandchildren. I’m sure she is rejoicing with our Lord and all those who have gone before. The awesome blessing is that we all will be together one day rejoicing right along with your mom and all our loved ones who are waiting for us to enter Heaven’s gates. We love you and will keep you in our prayers.

I haven't been able to get the picture of the reunion in Heaven out of my mind. It beats any reunion here on earth. I look forward to my joining them someday. She was my last aunt to transition to the Heavenly Home. I will miss visiting with her when I am back in Ohio. My love to all of you.
