Wayne L. Mertz, 74 of Findlay died at 3:36 a.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at Blanchard Valley Hospital. He was born in Findlay on May 9, 1939 to the late Merton Ralph and Eula Grace (Brenner) Mertz. Wayne was a 1957 graduate of Findlay High School. He graduated from Findlay College in 1962. Wayne served his country in the U.S. Army in South Korea from 1964-1965. He married Sarah Emily Wood on December 22, 1963 and she survives along with three children; Sharon (Jim) Burchiel of Kenton, Ohio, Lisa (Brent) Roth of Pettisville, Ohio and David (Beth) Mertz of Findlay. He is also survived by five grandchildren; Brad (Jami) Rehm, Dustin Roth, Hannah Roth, Hayley Mertz and Alexander Mertz, three great grandchildren Jonah, Micah and Rebekah Rehm. Wayne retired from RCA/Harris Corp after 30 years of service. He was an Eagle Scout and enjoyed camping, traveling in his R.V. and both Ohio and Civil War history. Wayne was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Benton Ridge, Ohio and attended Salem-Cass United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2013 from 2:00 - 4:00 & 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 17, 2013 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, with Pastor Ray Kane officiating. Burial will follow in Clymer Cemetery, Union Township where full military rites will be conducted by the Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad. Memorial contributions can be made to the Salem-Cass United Methodist Church or Calvary United Methodist Church. Condolences can be sent via www.coldrencrates.com.

I just happen to check the obits in the online Findlay Courier this afternoon and saw a listing for Wayne I had the great pleasure of working with Wayne when he worked for the City of Findlay Park Department and Kenny Frye It had to been around 1957 or 58 as I was probably in 10th grade at FHS I remember that Wayne had this beautiful Chevy convertible and I am not sure if it was Wayne's or his dad but it was beautifulVery sorry to read that Wayne is no longer with us May God Bless him his immediate family and his grandchildrenMay he Rest-In-Peace I know he will be missedDenny SeifriedSpringfield OH
