Donald D. Kirk, 89 of Findlay died on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m., July 11, 2012 at The Sterling House. He was born on July 14, 1922, to the late Charles Andrew and Debbie A. (Christy) Kirk in Mt. Gilead, OH. He married Gretchen Louise Forrest on January 1, 1945, and she preceded him in death in 2007. Donald is survived by sons: Jim Kirk of Findlay and Michael Lynn Kirk of Columbus; daughter, Ellen L. Melick of Mt. Cory, OH; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was also preceded in death by brothers: Lyle and Gerald Kirk and sisters: June Hart, Iris Flock, and Vera ONeal. Donald served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a retired truck driver and life member of the DAV Buddy Chapter #43, AMVETS Post #21, VFW 5645, and American Legion Post #434 in Bloomville. He was also a member of the College First Church of God. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay, where visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 & 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 13, 2012. Pastor William H. Reist will officiate and burial will follow in Knollcrest Gardens, east of town, where full military rites will be conducted by the Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad. Memorials may be made to Cancer Patient Services. The family would like to thank the staff and nurses at the Sterling House. Online condolences may be made via www.coldrencrates.com.
