Bobby C "Boomer" Burrell, age 68, passed away on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at 5:25pm after an extensive battle with cancer. He was surrounded at home by his family. He was born on July 25, 1942 in Findlay, Ohio to Thomas Clair and Mildred (Dysinger) Burrell. They preceded him in death.
Bobby married Joyce E. Young on October 21, 1971 and she survives. He is also survived by one son: Thomas (Victoria) Burrell of Harlem Ga. and five daughters: Barbara (Jeremy) Graham of Harlem Ga., Teresa (Dave) Grine of Van Buren, Tina (Jerry) Gerken of Findlay, Terri (Brad) Newfer of Kenton, and Bobbie Walke of Findlay.
He is survived by his grandchildren: Trista (Cory) Maag, Kayla Yingling (Kyle Wagner), Brittany Grine, Steffany Grine, Shaina Newfer (Jerry Stevenson), Shea Newfer (Megan Borger), Skyler Newfer, Slade Newfer, Zachery Burrell, Nichole Burrell, Brittany Giles, Lance Giles, Maycia Graham, Tessa Gerken, Tabitha Gerken, Mitchel Walke, and Justin Walke. Also surviving are four great grandchildren and one great grandchild is on the way.
He is survived by one sister: Kay (Martin) Davis of Findlay and one brother: Larry (Ann) Burrell of Vanlue. He also has several nieces and nephews whom he adored.
Bobby graduated in 1960 from Findlay High School. He enlisted in the United States Army and served in Germany. He worked at the Union Carbide in Fostoria, then the Cooper Tire and Rubber Co. where he was a tire inspector and in quality control, until he retired in 1999.
Bobby was an outstanding athlete participating in baseball, softball, golf and bowling. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed going on trips with the "guys." He also liked spending time at their trailer at Lake Erie. He loved corvettes, the Cleveland Browns and Indians, and Ohio State. He loved his dogs, Sara and Boomer. He was a life member of the DAV, AMVETS, and the National Rifle Association. He was a member of the Findlay Moose and VFW. He was a member of Field and Stream, the Conservation Club, and Lakeland Golf Course.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8pm at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME in Findlay. The funeral services will be private for the immediate family with full military honors being conducted by the Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad. Pastor Ben Lowell will officiate.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be given to the Findlay Hancock County Community Foundation c/o the Bobby C. Burrell Golf Scholarship.
