Earl R. Smith, age 86, of Findlay died at 5:05 p.m. on Thursday, January 21, 2010, at Bridge Hospice Care Center. He was born on September 10, 1923, in Hancock County to the late Henry and Laura (Wise) Smith. Earl served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a member of the Amvets #21, American Legion #3, and the Panther Group. Earl was also a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Findlay. He retired from Cooper Tire & Rubber Company. Surviving Earl are his four children: Arrel L. "Russ" (Clara Tate) Smith of Grand Prairie, TX, Leslie C. "Les" (Mary) Smith of Mandeville, LA, Rebeca S. "Becky" (William) Johns and Linda K. Smith both of Findlay, one brother Virden (Donna) Smith of Findlay, his best friend Magdaline "Max" Schaller of Findlay, four grandchildren: Cyrus (Sarah) Rua, Misi (Eric) Bickel, Benjamin and Courtney Smith, three step-grandchildren: Tom and Terry Zentemeyer, Michelle Caniglia, two great-grandchildren: Andrew and Ian Bickel and four step-great-grandchildren: Kevin and Kyle Zentemeyer and Gavin and Ashton Caniglia. His former wife Betty L. Smith of Findlay and his extended family, Doren Smith, Biron Smith, Marla (John) Roller, Denise Smith, Tyler and Joel Smith, Bret (Kim) Roller, Travis Roller and Natalie Roller also survive. He was preceded in death by his siter Mildred Fox.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 25, 2010, from 2:00 - 4:00 & 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME and for one hour (9:30 - 10:30 a.m.) prior to the service at the church. The Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 26, 2010, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2300 Northridge Road, Findlay with Pastor Robert Krueger officiating. Burial will follow in Knollcrest Gardens, east of Findlay where military rites will be conducted by the Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad.
