Coldren Crates Funeral Home has been serving area
families for over 75 years. Originally founded in Findlay, Ohio in
the early 1920’s by W.S. Clark, Mr. Clark was later joined by his
son, Frank. In 1936, Billy Coldren came to W.S. Clark to manage the
funeral home after the death of the elder Clark. When young Clark
unexpectedly died, Billy Coldren became the owner.
Coldren partnered with a gentleman named Coleman and
the business continued as Coldren and Coleman for three years.
Coldren later assumed complete ownership from Coleman, and his son,
Rex, joined the business. Three generations, Billy, Rex, and David
owned and managed the business.
During this time, the Crates
brothers, Larry, Charlie and Jack, were being raised on a farm
between Arlington and Jenera. All eventually attended various
universities and the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science.
The Crates brothers opened the Crates Funeral Home in Arlington,
Ohio in 1968, and also operated the Goff-Crates Funeral Home in
Carey until 1975. It was in 1975 when the brothers purchased the
Coldren Funeral Home which became Coldren Crates Funeral Home. In
1986, the Crates also acquired Smith Funeral Home in North
Baltimore, Ohio which became Smith Crates Funeral Home.
A
major renovation project in 1980 made Coldren Crates Funeral Home
one of the finest funeral facilities in Northwest Ohio. This
beautiful facility can provide spacious rooms and ample parking.
Chapel interiors are subtle and provide a quiet and elegant facility
for callers to pay their respects.
Crates, Coldren Crates, and Smith Crates
Funeral Homes offer smoke-free lounges and provide complimentary
beverages. Families can relax and children can find respite from the
often long hours of a visitation. All facilities can accommodate a
small catering for the convenience of the family.
